Or is it? For the first time since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was released one year ago, a new season of the popular shooter actually seems unlikely. It looks and feels very different to the main Black Ops 4 experience and is very much a game in itself.The Haunting of Verdansk has come and gone, and a new season of Call of Duty: Warzone is on the horizon. There are new Zombie threats and three different locations to play across, including on board the Titanic. This time, four characters are available to play in up to four-player co-op. ZombiesĪs is usual these days, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 also gets a Zombies mode. We'll bring you more on this when we know. We're yet to see it in action, but are promised that it will be hosted on a vast map - the largest in Call of Duty history and playable characters will be drawn throughout the franchise's different chapters. The gameplay style made most famous recently by PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite, where players must fight to be the last person standing, will appear as Blackout. Industry analyst, Martin Olson from Piper Jaffray, suggested in March that, no matter the theme, Treyarch and Activision will adopt a Battle Royale style multiplayer mode for this year's Call of Duty. It is thought that developement time was switched to the new Blackout Battle Royale mode instead. Sadly, while a narrative will run through the Multiplayer missions, there will be no single-player campaign this year. We will reveal more when we have had a chance to go hands-on with the game soon. Multiple characters will be available to play as, each with their own unique abilities. It is a "boots on the ground" game, meaning that there will be no super-powered leaps into the air, or farting around on rooftops.įrom what we know so far, the main mode is Multiplayer, with heavily customisable weaponry and superfast action. There are some that thought that Treyarch's Black Ops games stepped too far into the realms of science fiction with the last two outings - not quite as far as Infinite Warfare, but with a heavy slant on verticality through boost packs and wall running mechanics.Ĭall of Duty: Black Ops 4 reverts the series back a step or two. The PC version will be sold and hosted through Blizzard's BattleNet.Ĭontrary to popular rumours, it will not be released on Nintendo Switch.
